Wapi Restaurant stands at the edge of Sunrise Beach with open sides, wooden tables and the sea a few steps from your chair. It serves resort guests and island visitors alike, from coffee and fresh fruit at first light to cold drinks after an afternoon swim.

Breakfast by the water

Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 10:00. Tropical fruit, eggs, toast, yoghurt and fresh coffee share the table with Thai options such as rice soup, and the kitchen prepares a European-style breakfast for guests who prefer a familiar start.

Arrive at opening time and the day is still soft and gold over the water, with longtail boats sliding past between you and the horizon. Our notes from a Sunrise Beach morning capture that first hour better than any menu description could.

Lunch and slow afternoons

From late morning the menu widens: Thai favourites and curries, fresh seafood, sandwiches, salads and lighter plates made for sharing. There are vegetarian and vegan choices throughout, and the kitchen happily dials the heat up or down to suit you.

There is no better table than the one closest to the sand, with a longtail boat drifting past in the distance.

Lunch here tends to stretch. People order one more juice, watch the boats cross the bay, and suddenly it is the middle of the afternoon. That is fine. Lingering is the point.

Drinks and something sweet

The drinks list runs from fresh fruit juices and shakes to fresh coffee, soft drinks and cold beers. Cakes and sweet things appear for anyone who wants to stay at the table a little longer. During high season the restaurant is open from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm; outside those months, hours can vary, so check locally.

Whether you come for a quiet breakfast, a long lunch or a slow afternoon by the sea, we look forward to finding you a table close to the sand.
